The mission of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is to provide direction, planning, funding and oversight for the provision of mental health, mental retardation and alcoholism treatment and prevention services to the residents of New York City. The Department also engages in public education and advocacy to ensure the provision of culturally competent, cost effective, high quality care.
